MakeBOF vs HeyGen: which one fits TikTok Shop product videos?

If you're weighing a HeyGen alternative for product videos on TikTok Shop, start with what each tool puts on screen. HeyGen is built around AI avatars that present to camera, for explainers, training and marketing, and it can dub videos into more than 175 languages. Its URL-to-video tool drafts a presenter video from a web link, including product pages.

MakeBOF makes product-only showcase clips for TikTok Shop. You paste product links or a shop username, pick a style, and each product becomes a vertical video of about 8 seconds with captions burned on, a whole batch at a time. This MakeBOF vs HeyGen comparison uses prices as listed on October 16, 2026.

The short answer

Choose HeyGen when you want a presenter on screen talking about a product, in English or other languages, or when you need longer videos and team seats. Choose MakeBOF when you post lots of short product clips to TikTok Shop and want them made in batches straight from your listings, at $0.198 to $0.38 per Standard video depending on plan.

Pick MakeBOF if

  • You promote or sell on TikTok Shop and want to paste a product link or shop name, with no script to write for each video.
  • You need dozens or hundreds of short product clips a month, queued as a batch that keeps running while you do other work.
  • You want to know what each video costs up front: $0.198 to $0.38 for a Standard clip, and nothing for one that fails.
  • You post from several TikTok accounts and want finished videos kept sorted by account.

Pick HeyGen if

  • You want a talking avatar, or a digital twin of someone on your team, presenting the product.
  • You sell in more than one language. HeyGen dubs into 175+ languages, and MakeBOF captions are English only.
  • You make longer videos such as tutorials, explainers or training: up to 30 minutes on Creator and 60 on Business.
  • Your team needs shared credits and seats, or a developer wants to generate videos in bulk through an API.

Pricing: MakeBOF vs HeyGen

MakeBOF

  • Free$010 credits a month (10 Standard or 5 Premium videos), 20 products, 1 posting account
  • Pro$19/mo50 credits a month, 250 products, 3 posting accounts, 2 videos at once. $190 a year if paid annually.

  • Scale$99/mo500 credits a month, 5,000 products, 20 posting accounts, 6 videos at once. $990 a year if paid annually.

A Standard video uses 1 credit and a Premium video uses 2. Credits are charged only when a video finishes, so a failed video costs nothing. Subscribers can add credit packs (20 for $7, 60 for $18, 200 for $50) that never expire.

HeyGen

  • Free$03 videos a month, up to 1 minute each, no card needed
  • Creator$29/mo600 credits, videos up to 30 minutes, watermark removal. $24/mo billed yearly, per HeyGen's FAQ.

Web plans run on monthly credits. HeyGen's pricing page says the credits a video uses depend on the AI model behind it, such as the avatar type, plus the video's length and complexity, and it doesn't list a per-minute credit rate. The API is billed separately, by the second.

What one short video costs

On MakeBOF, a Standard video uses 1 credit. Pro is $19 for 50 credits, so $19 ÷ 50 = $0.38 a video. Max is $49 ÷ 200 = $0.245 and Scale is $99 ÷ 500 = $0.198. Paying for Pro yearly, $190 ÷ 600 credits comes to about $0.32. A Premium video uses 2 or more credits, so it costs at least double.

HeyGen's API charges $0.05 per second of video. An 8-second clip is 8 × $0.05 = $0.40, and a 15-second clip is 15 × $0.05 = $0.75. We can't give a per-video price for HeyGen's web plans: credits per video depend on the model and avatar type, and the pricing page doesn't list a per-minute rate.

What is HeyGen?

HeyGen is a general AI video platform built around talking avatars. It's used for training videos, explainers and marketing, with a presenter that reads your script on camera. It can also dub a video into more than 175 languages. Plans run from a free tier up to team plans with shared credits, and developers can use its API.

HeyGen URL to video

The HeyGen tool closest to what MakeBOF does is URL-to-video. You submit a web page link, HeyGen pulls the headlines, copy and images, and its AI drafts a script and scenes that you can edit before rendering. A HeyGen presenter, or a digital twin of a teammate, delivers it. The result downloads as a captioned MP4 in 16:9, 1:1 or 9:16. HeyGen says Shopify and Etsy product links work well, and it can make ad variants for Meta, TikTok and YouTube.

Where HeyGen is the better choice

If a person on screen is what sells your product, HeyGen can give you that and MakeBOF can't. A presenter can walk through features, answer common questions or show how to use something, which a short captioned product clip won't do.

HeyGen also wins on reach and length. Dubbing into 175+ languages matters if you sell outside the US, and videos can run up to 30 minutes on Creator and 60 on Business, long enough for tutorials and training. Teams get shared credits and $20 seats, and developers get an API that can turn a list of pages into videos in bulk.

If an avatar ad for paid social is what you're after, our comparisons with Arcads and Creatify cover two tools built for that.

Where MakeBOF is the better choice

MakeBOF starts from TikTok Shop itself. Paste a product link or a shop or creator username and it pulls the listings with their photos, price and sales. You can import in bulk and set a source to re-scrape every 1, 6, 12 or 24 hours, so new products show up without you checking.

Each batch follows one ready-made style, such as GirlyPop UGC try-on, That Price in-store find, Flash Sale deal promo or Furniture in a real room, so there's no prompt or script to write. AI makes a showcase image of each product, turns it into a vertical clip of about 8 seconds, and burns on captions with emoji. Standard videos cost 1 credit. Premium costs 2 and uses several product photos as reference for a multi-shot video.

Batches run on their own. Free generates 1 video at a time, Pro 2, Max 4 and Scale 6, and the rest wait in a queue and start automatically while you watch progress live. Finished videos can be sorted by the TikTok accounts you post from, and a video that fails costs nothing.

Workflow: making 30 product videos in each tool

In MakeBOF

Say you promote a beauty shop on TikTok Shop. Paste the shop username and its listings come in with photos, price and sales. Tick 30 products, choose the That Price style and start the batch. On Pro, two videos generate at once and the other 28 queue behind them; on Max it's four at a time. Thirty Standard videos use 30 of Pro's 50 monthly credits, and any that fail aren't charged. When the batch is done, sort the clips by the account each one will post from.

In HeyGen

In the web app you'd work one link at a time, since we couldn't find a batch mode there. For each product, paste the page link into URL-to-video, read and edit the drafted script, pick the presenter, set 9:16 and render. Then download the MP4 and repeat 29 more times. HeyGen's page mentions Shopify and Etsy links but not TikTok Shop, so test a TikTok Shop link first. A developer could send all 30 links through the API instead, at $0.05 per second of video.

Cost at real TikTok Shop volume

An affiliate posting 5 videos a day across 3 accounts makes 15 a day, about 450 a month. The figures below assume 8-second clips, MakeBOF credits for Standard videos and HeyGen's API rate. Premium videos use twice the credits. All MakeBOF plans and credit packs are in our pricing.

  • 100 videos a month: MakeBOF Pro plus a 60-credit pack is $19 + $18 = $37 for 110 credits, or Max is $49 for 200. HeyGen's API is 100 × $0.40 = $40, or $75 if each video runs 15 seconds.
  • 300 videos a month: MakeBOF Scale is $99 for 500 credits. HeyGen's API is 300 × $0.40 = $120, or $225 at 15 seconds.
  • 450 videos a month: Scale still covers it at $99, with 50 credits spare. HeyGen's API is 450 × $0.40 = $180, or $337.50 at 15 seconds.

These aren't the same video. HeyGen's price buys an avatar presenter, and using the API means writing code or using a tool that calls it. Its web plans could come out higher or lower per video, but credits per video depend on the model and avatar type, so you'd need to test with your own videos. Reviewers on Trustpilot (4.1 stars from 4,467 reviews on October 15, 2026) most often mention credits running out fast.

Questions people ask

How much does HeyGen cost?

As listed on October 16, 2026, Free is $0 for 3 videos a month up to 1 minute each. Creator is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly according to HeyGen's FAQ, with 600 credits. Pro is $49 for 1,000 credits, with bigger credit tiers up to 100,000. Business is $149 a month for 1,500 shared credits plus $20 per extra seat, and Enterprise is priced on request. The API is separate: $0.05 per second of video with a $5 minimum top-up.

Is HeyGen good for TikTok Shop?

It works well for a presenter-style TikTok video. URL-to-video exports 9:16, and HeyGen can make ad variants for TikTok. We couldn't find a TikTok Shop integration or a batch mode in the web app, so each product is a separate job. That adds up if you post many product clips a day. For one strong talking video about a hero product, HeyGen fits.

What's a cheaper HeyGen alternative for TikTok Shop product videos?

For short product-only clips, MakeBOF costs $0.198 to $0.38 per Standard video depending on plan, compared with $0.40 for an 8-second clip on HeyGen's API. MakeBOF doesn't make avatar videos, so it only replaces HeyGen if you don't need a presenter. The Free plan gives 10 credits a month with no card, so you can try it on your own products.

Does HeyGen URL to video work with TikTok Shop links?

HeyGen says Shopify and Etsy product links work well, and its URL-to-video page doesn't mention TikTok Shop. It also notes that pages behind a login or built as single-page apps often need the script pasted in instead. Try a TikTok Shop link on the free plan before you pay.

Can MakeBOF make talking avatar videos like HeyGen?

No. MakeBOF has no avatars, presenters, voiceover or dubbing, and no timeline editor. Each product becomes one vertical clip of about 8 seconds with English captions. If you need longer edits, our InVideo AI comparison covers a full editor.

Can I use HeyGen and MakeBOF together?

Yes. You could use HeyGen for a few presenter videos on your best sellers and MakeBOF for the daily run of product clips across your TikTok accounts. They don't connect to each other, so treat them as two separate tools with separate bills.
